From chapters about gurus to his experiences with psychics and psychedelics, each chapter was funny and also telling. I started reading this book while enjoying my hot chocolate at a local bookstore and literally almost coughed it out laughing. This book is hysterical. He's an interesting comic who displays a depth of character not usually seen in written works by comedians. I loved it.
I bought this as a Christmas present for my 1 son. He has read it several times as has his brother. They both love it.
With the exclusion of a few interesting factoids, I didn't learn anything new from the author. This book is not an atheistic argument written in the manner of Richard Dawkins' work "The God Delusion." In fact, Mr.
Black is an acerbic, insightful comedian would doesn't seem to have many qualms about addressing any issue. Mr.
If you are uncomfortable about anyone being critical of or taking potshots at certain aspects of different religions, it would be best for you to avoid his surprisingly thoughtful, often hilarious meanderings through different faiths. The author follows in the footsteps of other iconoclastic funny men such as Lenny Bruce and George Carlin.
The guy's delivery certainly is not everybody's cup of tea. Black has experienced otherworldly events which keep him open to what happens after we die.
But good God, what a fun, laugh-out-loud time it was reading this little baby.
This a very funy album from Lewis Black that I would recommend to individuials who want a good and thoughtful laugh.
Prospective readers need to be warned though. Because we have seen several videos of Lewis Black and, once we got used to his way of using the language ()., laughed our heads off, I decided this might be a funny book to read. If you are not familiar with Lewis Black, and you cannot bear to have your religion made fun of (no matter which one), DO NOT buy this book. It is. There were some chapters where I laughed from beginning to end; others were more thoughtful and thought provoking. (ie. if you really enjoyed the movie poking fun at religions by Bill Maher, you will love this book).
